Rijk Zwaan joins forces in new R&D consortium
Rijk Zwaan will be able to expand its research activities as one of the partners of the Crops of the Future Collaborative. This new public-private consortium is convened by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR, located in the USA) and has research on leafy vegetables as one of its points of attention.

Bejo and Rijk Zwaan announce licensing deal on traits in vegetables
Bejo and Rijk Zwaan have signed an agreement for the exchange of non-exclusive licenses for patented traits in vegetables. This exchange will enable the two vegetable breeding companies to strengthen their innovative capacities and introduce improved varieties more quickly.
Milestone for development of African horticulture
Vegetable breeding company Rijk Zwaan has introduced its first hybrid varieties for African eggplant. These have numerous advantages over varieties that are traditionally grown in Africa and will enable farmers to generate a better income for themselves. Rijk Zwaan spent almost 10 years working on the development of these varieties and is now selling the first seeds on a commercial basis.

Vegetable breeding company Rijk Zwaan and Naturalis Biodiversity Center are forming a unique partnership to conduct research into biological material. During a visit to the Naturalis collection earlier today, Rijk Zwaan’s Managing Director Kees Reinink signed a three-year contract with Koos Biesmeijer, Research Director at Naturalis.
Denomination of Pfs 16, a new race of downy mildew in spinach
The IWGP (International Working Group Peronospora) has decided that Pfs UA1519B (Peronospora farinosa f. sp. spinaciae) is official Pfs 16. This isolate is found several times in 2015 in the USA and for the moment not in other continents.
