Rijk Zwaan’s melon concept Mellissimo has been awarded with the Expo Agro Innovation Award 2011. This was announced during the Expo Agro Almería, a horticultural fair in Spain which took place from 6-8 april.

It was the first edition of this award, with which Expo Agro honoured the most innovative horticultural products of the year. The contest consisted of two categories. One of the prizes was awarded by a jury selected by the organization, the other one – the one won by Rijk Zwaan - by a popular vote. The voting was done at a polling booth located at the exhibition ground and also via the website of Expo Agro. The public judged Mellissimo as the most innovative product. This 'Piel de Sapo' melon of Rijk Zwaan is famous for its small size and its high sugar content, which makes it very convenient for export purposes.
