Cauliflower Denali RZ is Impressive

Growers are always searching for the one cauliflower variety that will provide them with a heavy curd, a smooth, white appearance and adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions and market uses. Rijk Zwaan has developed a variety that has the potential to meet those demands and more. We’re proud to introduce Denali RZ (26-960 RZ) cauliflower.

Denali RZ has a strong root system that allows it to perform well under stress conditions and consequently produces a large head with an excellent inner wrap.

In fact, the results in most of our trials indicate that it performs best with less nitrogen than normally used. The end result is a smooth, dense head with a bright white curd and fewer splits.

In Salinas, Denali RZ is an excellent alternative in the spring (Symphony/ Shasta slot) and fall (Apex slot) where Solvang has been an option. But, Denali RZ has the potential to out-perform Solvang and its competitors!

In Santa Maria, Denali RZ has compared positively with Symphony & White Magic under spring conditions and weighed more and was smoother than Apex in the fall. The only caution is that Denali RZ can be 5 days later. With a slight adjustment to the production schedule, growers will find that Denali RZ is worth waiting for. This excellent hybrid has possibilities for summer and winter production in Santa Maria as well.

Denali RZ trials in Yuma are still being evaluated along with other promising hybrids. In addition to all of its other attributes, Denali RZ produces excellent florets and has been used for mini-head production. If you haven’t tried Denali RZ, plant a row or two or maybe a field in order to see for yourself what you’re missing. For more information on this variety or other Brassica and/or samples please contact Merek Dorf or Jim Vaux.
